Special Issue – Holiday Shopping Part One

Nov 25, 2021

Hollywood hath given the first gift to the world this holiday season with the movie “House of Gucci”. Lady Gaga graces our cover and stars in the film as Patrizia Reggiani, alongside a star-studded cast including Adam Driver (Maurizio Gucci), Jared Leto (Paolo Gucci), Jeremy Irons (Rodolfo Gucci), Salma Hayek (Giuseppina Auriemma), and Al Pacino (Aldo Gucci). All the deets on the movie on page 20.

Every December 1st we commemorate a day we wish we did not have to, World AIDS Day; however, there is a silver lining to this day as there has been much progress in fighting the disease in the last 30 years. Hear the latest from the One Community Health HIV Prevention Manager, Tasia Stewart, on page 3.

On November 28th, you can take part in supporting the Sacramento-area museum stores’ one-of-a-kind shopping experience with one-of-a-kind, highly-curated, and mission-specific gifts. More details on page 4. Speaking of gifts, there’s a small item gift boutique at the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center on December 4th. Information on page 6.

If you’re up for a day trip, head out to Yountville for their Holidays in Yountville running now through January 1st, 2022 (page 8), and we hope you will join us for at least one of the WEAVE Toy Drive Events on either December 2nd (Drag Queen Bingo at Mango’s) or Badlands Liquid Therapy Happy Hour on December 10th. We’ve got a “Wish List” of items most requested from those in need on page 11.

And on page 12, open your ears to the sounds of the holidays with the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus, the Sacramento Philharmonic, the Sacramento Women’s Chorus, and more. Then on page 15, we’ve got some more unique gift ideas, as well as some delightful recommendations on what to buy for someone who loves wine and spirits on page 18. On page 22, there’s an eclectic list of classic movie suggestions with which you can surprise someone.

If you’re ready to get serious about your sound system, turn to page 24 for Ron’s rundown on a less-expensive stereo, just in time for the holidays, and then listen to some fresh music from Adele, Elton John, and believe it or not, ABBA, reviews courtesy of Chris Narloch.

Matthew Burlingame returns with his “Out & About” column on page 26 and closes out our holiday issue part one. We love what Matt opens with in his first paragraph: “The holidays are here, and if you just said, “I hate the holidays”, then you’re doing it wrong.”

Happy Holidays! Remember to tell your friends you love them, and be kind this season.
