Equality California Endorses Openly LGBTQ Local Candidates Across the State

Endorsed Candidates Include Adam Spickler, State's First Openly Transgender Man to Win Elected Office

Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization, announced the endorsements of 10 openly LGBTQ candidates running for local office in 2018. The candidates are among a surge of openly LGBTQ Californians seeking public office across the state — and a record number of LGBTQ candidates running throughout the country this year.

“California is ready for a ‘rainbow wave’ of openly LGBTQ leaders to claim their seat at the table this year and fight for full equality at all levels of government,” said Equality California Executive Director Rick Zbur. “We’re proud to stand with these exceptional candidates because we know they’ll fight for common-sense solutions to the problems facing their communities and for a world that is healthy, just and fully equal for all LGBTQ people.”

The candidates include Adam Spickler, who was appointed automatically to the Cabrillo College Board of Trustees after no opponent filed to run against him before an August 15 deadline, becoming the state’s first openly transgender man to win and serve in elected office.

Equality California has endorsed the following candidates in their respective races:
