Excitement is building and Harvey Milk Day has expanded.

Members of the Harvey Milk Day Organizing Committee met March 11 at Hamburger Patties to discuss plans for the May event, and here is a rundown of upcoming events. While the leadership of Equality Action Now has taken the lead organizing the event, members of the community at-large and various organizations have joined to plan the first-ever event.
Equality Action now has added four separate events to its list.

In addition, the Harvey B. Milk Foundation, headed by Stuart Milk, nephew of Harvey Milk, is hosting an event at the California State History Museum in Sacramento.
Organizations like EQCA will host events between May 12-22.

Preparations are still being made and the information below is a tentative plan:

May 12, 2010 — Milk Foundation Event, “Harvey B. Milk – A Celebration” with a VIP reception and “Tribute to Harvey,” based on the play Dear Harvey (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.) and Celebration/Reception (7 - 10 p.m.) at the California State History Museum, 11th and Q Streets, Info: www.HarveyMilkCelebration.com

May 19, 2010 — Harvey Milk Day Milk and Cookies, a special event at the Crest Theater, 1013 K St., with a VIP Reception (6 – 7 p.m.), Panel Discussion (7 – 8 p.m.) and the showing of Gus van Sant’s production of MILK (8 p.m.) – info www.EqualityActionNow.org

May 22, 2010 — Harvey Milk Day March and Rally at the west steps of the State Capitol Building, 10th and L streets from 4 – 6 p.m.

May 22, 2010 — Harvey Milk Day Block Party from 6 – 8:30 p.m., location not yet determined.

The next meeting of the Harvey Milk Day Organization Committee will be April 8 2010, 6 p.m. at Hamburger Patties, 1630 J St.
