San Francisco Community Commemorates Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31

A group of community organizations, led by the Trans Employment Program of the SF LGBT Center and Trans:Thrive at the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Wellness Center will host a free community-wide event to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31 at SOMArts.

TDOV is an annual celebration around the world dedicated to lifting the accomplishments and victories of transgender & gender non-conforming (GNC) people while raising awareness of the work that is still needed to save trans lives. The celebration was started in 2009 as a response to the lack of LGBT celebrations focused on transgender and GNC people's successes.

This year's event will feature YouTube Star Gigi Gorgeous, an actress, model and internet personality with more than 7 million followers. Gigi's new film "This is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous" on YouTube Red will screen on March 30 --- the night before TDOV --- at Twitter's HQ in San Francisco. All proceeds from the film screening will be donated to support TDOV 2017.

TDOV 2017 is a free event that will feature trans leadership awards, entertainment, small bites, and drinks. This year's honorees include the Transgender Gender Variant and Intersex (TGI) Justice Project; Aria Sa'id, emerging leader and Program Director of St. James Infirmary; Tom Waddell Health Center's Transgender Clinic; videographer and advocate Gwen Park, and more! Nya from Transcendent and Shawn Demmons will emcee the evening.

The program provides a wide range of services including: job referrals and career coaching, navigating being out at work or transitioning on the job, resume review and managing references, hiring and community events, mentoring, and legal services.
