Real-life Broadway sweethearts Audra McDonald and Will Swenson will perform together in a rare treat for their fans, this Friday evening at the beautiful Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
A presentation of Feinstein’s Presents, the concert will showcase the remarkable talents of this dynamic duo, married since 2012, who have nine Tony nominations between them.
Ms. Mcdonald has won six Tony Awards, more performance wins than any other actor, and is the only person to win a Tony in all four acting categories.
The prolific singer/actress was recently awarded the 2015 National Medal of Arts by President Obama and has also won two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award.
The Juilliard-trained performer last starred on Broadway in “Shuffle Along,” and she appears in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast,” slated for theatrical release in March 2017.
In addition to her offstage roles as a loving wife and mother, McDonald is a prominent advocate for equal rights, LGBTQ causes, and underprivileged youth.
Will Swenson was most recently seen on Broadway in “Disaster” and is best known for playing Javert in “Les Miserables” and for his Tony-nominated role as Berger in the 2009 Broadway revival of “Hair.”
Additionally, Swenson was seen on stage in “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and in “Rock of Ages,” and he has also appeared in television series such as “The Good Wife” and “Law & Order.”
Like his wife, Swenson is dedicated to equal rights causes; the couple was featured in NOH8’s campaign against Prop. 8 and received PFLAG’s 2012 Straight for Equality in Entertainment Award.
Audra McDonald and Will Swenson will perform at 8:00 p.m. this Friday, January 27, 2017, at Walnut Creek’s Lesher Center for the Arts.
