Non-Discrimination & the Road to Marriage Equality

Last week’s column seems to have kicked up a lot of dust. Titled “LGBT politics 101” (you can read it at www.epgn.com), I honed in on what the LGBT community might focus on as our next priority following the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

It was, and is, my view that basic nondiscrimination legislation is the most pressing issue facing the LGBT community nationally — and by the numbers, it is. Some feel that gay marriage should be our prime objective. The reality is that not all LGBT people are in relationships and, regardless of whether you are and if you wish to marry, you can still endure discrimination on the basis of being LGBT with or without a marriage license in most of the United States.

MCC Reverend Named to White House CouncilReverend Wilsom

The Reverend Elder Nancy Wilson, Presiding Moderator of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, has been named by President Barack Obama to serve on the White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

The White House Advisory Council brings together leaders and experts in the fields of faith-based and neighborhood organizations to work in the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, which mobilizes and coordinates community organizations, religious and otherwise, to provide effective social services to address the needs of low-income and underserved populations at home and abroad.
